Why it sounds this good

Why the bass goes underground

Bass is the hardest thing to do well outdoors: there are no walls to help it. The LS-80 solves it by hiding a proper subwoofer in the ground.

    Hidden in the bed

    About 390 mm of the enclosure goes below grade, leaving roughly 275 mm, mostly the low domed cap, above the soil. Surround it with mulch and plants and it reads as a garden light or a planter, not a speaker.

    A real 8-inch long-throw driver

    Inside is an 8-inch long-throw, mineral-filled woofer with dual voice coils, loaded by a tuned port and a precision crossover. It digs down to 45 Hz, giving music the weight small outdoor speakers cannot.

    Tough by design

    The ported enclosure is PolyStone, rugged and mineral-filled, and the whole subwoofer is rated IP54 against dust and splashing water. It is made to sit in soil through every season.

    Wires in beside the satellites

    Two voice coils, two jacketed pigtails. Each coil joins one amplifier channel alongside the satellites, which gives installers flexibility and lets a single stereo amp run both the sub and the speakers.

LS-80 Subwoofer: questions we get asked

How deep does the hole need to be?

The LS-80 is 665 mm tall and is installed with about 390 mm below ground, leaving roughly 275 mm above.

Does it need a separate amplifier?

Not in an LS-6.1 style setup. Its two voice coils each join one channel of a stereo amplifier alongside the satellites. Never wire both subwoofer coils in parallel on the same channel: the impedance drops too low.

What does it pair with?

It is designed for the Dymension Outdoor LS-400 satellites. With the LS-80 in the system you can run up to eight LS-400s from one stereo amplifier.
